Our Center is dedicated to St. Gianna Beretta Molla who was an Italian pediatrician and a mother to four children. Gianna was a wonderful woman who loved her children and her patients. Dr. Gianna did not charge patients who could not afford to pay her fees. Senior citizens often found money in their health card after leaving her office. St. Gianna was noted for her special love for mothers and children. She actually specialized in pediatrics in an effort to be even more effective in her assistance to them. Gianna’s love for her patients was huge but even bigger was her love for her own children; she called them her “jewels.” Her untimely death at the age of 39 was due to her desire to give the child she was carrying every chance at life. That child has had a wonderful life because of her mother’s selfless sacrifice. St. Gianna died on April 28, 1962, just eight days after the birth of her fourth child due to complications of that birth. She was canonized as a Saint on May 16, 2004 and that daughter, along with Gianna’s husband and other children were in attendance of that magnificent moment!
St. Gianna lived her life according to her own words, “Love is the most beautiful sentiment the Lord as put into the souls of men and women.”
