Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Mothers!

It was once told to me that once God had created the angels, the earth and all that was in it and now it was time to create Mothers. To paraphrase the great Erma Bombeck: He was working hard, and an angel came to see if there was any need for help. The angel said, “She’s so soft.” and God replied, “and just as tough! She has eyes that can see through closed doors and broken hearts. She can feed a family of six with a pound of hamburger and convince a nine-year-old to stand under a shower. She heals herself when she is sick so that she can tend to heal others. She thinks, reasons and can compromise all while loving.” At one point the angel touches the face of the Mother and says, “This will not work, it is too much. See, there is a leak.” God responds, “That is not a leak. That is a tear.” The angel said, “What’s a tear for?”  God said, “It is for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness and for all of those proud moments.”  “You are a genius,” said the angel. God shook His head and said, “I didn’t put it there.”

We all have a Mother. God made sure of that. Mothers are truly miracles made by God. Moms are human and make human mistakes. Nonetheless, they carried us inside their bodies and brought us into this world. Even with that minimum effort we have been immeasurably blessed by them. Most Mom’s rise away beyond that minimum. We need to give great thanks for that.

This work at St. Gianna’s has given me the tremendous honor of helping many women to become Mothers; it has also allowed me the unfathomable honor of being a Mom to so many who are broken hearted, frustrated, or distressed. It is beyond my ability to express what it is like to feel the hug or the verbal embrace of a crying or laughing client. There are no words.

God has richly blessed me with each client. He has also blessed me with the ability to do this work because of your prayerful and financial support! Again, there are no words. My wish is that I could give each of you a huge “Mother’s Day Hug” on this Mother’s Day and every day of this wondrous year!

Take loving care and enjoy this momentous month of May as we celebrate Mother’s Day and the month of Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our Mother and loving guide!
